Exciting developments are underway for Philadelphia’s beloved Schuylkill River Trail! Thanks to nearly $14 million in federal funding, two significant extensions are in the works, improving connectivity for walkers, runners, and cyclists. These expansions will provide safer, more convenient routes between Manayunk and Passyunk Avenue, enhancing the region’s transportation infrastructure and recreational opportunities.

Key Trail Expansions

  1. Wissahickon Gateway – This extension will allow users to bypass the heavily trafficked intersection of Ridge Avenue and Main Street in Manayunk, creating a more seamless and safer connection.

  2. Passyunk Connection – This project will link Gray’s Ferry Avenue to Passyunk Avenue along the west side of the river, further expanding access to the trail network.

Both projects are funded by a $13.7 million federal grant, made possible through the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. While these improvements will take several years to complete, they mark a significant step forward in enhancing Philadelphia’s trail system.

The Schuylkill River Trail is a critical part of the region’s outdoor recreation and alternative transportation network. These new connections will not only benefit outdoor enthusiasts but also improve accessibility for commuters and local businesses.
