In an exciting development for the Levittown community, W.B. Homes has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to transform a four-acre property previously owned by the Knights of Columbus. This collaboration aims to provide affordable housing options while revitalizing an underutilized area of Middletown Township.

Zoning Changes to Expand Housing Opportunities

During a recent meeting with Middletown Township supervisors, W.B. Homes president Chris Canavan proposed a zoning modification that would enable the construction of 34 housing units on the site—a significant increase from what current zoning regulations allow. The adjustment comes with a unique commitment: 20% of the homes will be designated as "attainable housing," reserved for buyers earning below the gross median income in Bucks County, which currently stands at $114,700 annually.

This proposal has garnered support from both the Bucks County and Middletown Township planning commissions, marking a key step toward addressing the region’s growing need for affordable housing. A formal decision on the zoning amendment is expected at the board’s February meeting.

A Shared Vision for Affordable Housing

As part of the agreement, W.B. Homes will sell six of the townhomes to Habitat for Humanity at approximately half the price of the market-rate units. Habitat for Humanity will retain ownership of the land under these homes, ensuring they remain affordable for future income-qualified buyers. Florence Kawoczka, CEO of Bucks County Habitat for Humanity, emphasized the long-term benefits of this arrangement, stating that it allows the organization "to sell to another income-qualified household" if the initial owners decide to move.

Transforming Communities, One Home at a Time

This initiative represents a win-win for the Levittown area. Not only will it make homeownership more accessible to families who might otherwise be priced out of the market, but it will also repurpose an underdeveloped property, adding vitality to the neighborhood.
